Missing and Murdered Indigenous Woman(MMIW) Awareness
Justice for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons: End the Violence
The MMIW is a national community-based grassroots movement to raise awareness to the lack of response when a Native woman or girl goes missing or is murdered.
In a study completed by the Urban Indian Health Institute, they found that in 2016 there were 5,712 cases of MMIWG, but only 116 of these case were even logged into the Department of Justice federal missing persons database. This is a prime example of the continued injustice being done to the Indigenous persons of North America. To view this report in full please click here.
